Founded in 1971 from various herd dispersals
at that time, the herd has grown from small beginnings to over 130 cows
but now due to labour problems and my desire for a quieter time, is
being reduced and stands at just under 60 cows now.
Early sires used
included Woodside Bandit, Zone Vantage and Hoplands Lusty. In late 1975
Wenlock Tipster was purchased and he, being a son of Wabash Allen IX,
started the Canadian influence in the herd and the decision to get more
frame size into the cattle.Tipster was followed by another Wabash Allen
son, Wenlock Vindicator, in late 1979 and thereafter imported Canadian
sires have been predominant. These include ET Lad 17L. Quantock Ambassador,
Quantock Paragon and QLC Quantock Genius. The Quantock influence was
very much noted as the three bulls have added not only frame but carcase
size and quality. Of the three Quantock Ambassador was the real changer
and to him goes most of the credit for the subsequent success of the
herd. He is now buried on the farm - a much loved bull.
Laterly Bannerlane Dom Virginian 53E and Bannerlane Hi Standard 45H have come in from Bannerlane Hereford Ranch at Livelong, Saskatchewan, Canada. Also Ervie Express N72, a grandson of CH 3223 Visa, came from Ervie Herefords and a son Aultoun Unknown is in use now.
